Our Mission
The African Road Safety Observatory (AfRSO) aims to strengthen road safety across Africa by collecting, analyzing and disseminating reliable data and evidence to support informed decision-making. It works to enhance the capacity of member countries to monitor road safety performance, identify risk factors and implement effective interventions that reduce road traffic injuries and fatalities.
Road Safety Research
AfRSO conducts and supports research that improves understanding of road safety challenges across Africa, helping policymakers design more effective interventions.
Policy Guidance
The Observatory supports governments in developing road safety policies and strategies aligned with international standards and regional priorities.

AfRSO envisions a safer Africa where road traffic deaths and injuries are significantly reduced through evidence-based policies, strong institutional capacity and coordinated action among African governments, stakeholders and communities, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and public health in line with the AU Agenda 2063.
Our Approach / How We Work
The African Road Safety Observatory (AfRSO) advances road safety agenda across Africa through a coordinated, data-driven approach. We generate and harmonize road safety data, support evidence-based policy development and facilitate collaboration among Member States and partners. By linking research, policy, and implementation, AfRSO ensures that road safety interventions are practical, scalable and aligned with regional priorities. Our work strengthens institutional capacity and promotes consistent, measurable progress across African countries.
Our approach is grounded in evidence, inclusivity and regional coordination. We work with governments, development partners, and the private sector to ensure that policies are informed by reliable data and adapted to local contexts. Through shared learning platforms and partnerships, AfRSO promotes innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
